The Local Area
Within easy reach of the M62 by car, local bus routes or Marsden train station (we are next to the train line) we are well positioned to explore the Colne Valley villages of Marsden and Slaithwaite. For town or city days out Halifax, Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Leeds and Manchester are close by and further afield are York and Liverpool.
We are on the West Yorkshire Cycle Route (WYCR) which is a 155 mile route around the perimeter of West Yorkshire and so if you are up for a challenge we are a perfect stop on your cycling adventure.
At the time of your booking if you travel by train we are happy to arrange collecting you and your luggage from Marsden Station.
Villages in West Yorkshire have a look like no other and the villages of the Colne Valley are no exception. The valley has a large industrial influence shaping the local area and the National Trust has a base in Marsden next to the train station. The Canal and River Trust have a visitors centre and wedding venue in Marsden at Tunnel End where you can access boat trips into the canal’s tunnel or just sit and watch the canal boats and life around the canal from their cafe.
Marsden is a busy village with annual events, including the Jazz Festival in October, the Cuckoo Festival in spring and both Marsden and Slaithwaite are recommend train stops for the Ale Trail taking in real ale pubs between Leeds and Manchester. The Pennine Way runs over the moors above Marsden and we think the fantastic villages of Marsden and Slaithwaite offer good beer, food, independent shops, unique culture and community spirit – that is why we are proud to call Marsden and the Colne Valley our home.
